Calculate exactly how much Facebook takes from your sale and what you actually take home. Covers local pickup (no fee) and shipped orders (5% selling fee or $0.40 minimum).
Facebook Marketplace has two fee structures depending on how you sell. For local pickup transactions — where the buyer collects the item in person — there is no selling fee at all. Facebook does not take any percentage of cash-in-hand or payment-outside-platform sales. This makes local pickup the most profitable option if you are selling to buyers nearby.
For shipped orders processed through Facebook Checkout (where the buyer pays through Facebook directly), a 5% selling fee applies to the total transaction amount. The minimum fee for any single transaction is $0.40, which applies to sales under $8. For example, a $5 sale would incur a $0.40 fee rather than $0.25 (5%). A $100 sale would incur a $5 fee. Payment is deposited to your linked bank account, typically within 5–7 business days after the buyer confirms delivery.
Beyond Facebook's selling fee, you also need to account for shipping costs. If you offer free shipping to attract buyers, that cost comes entirely out of your payout. Factoring shipping correctly is critical for small-item sellers — a $3 shipping label on a $10 sale can wipe out most of your profit even before Facebook's fee is applied.
